What is it about asexuals that makes people so angry? I wonder if he still feels this way?

Personally, I am one who advocates a separation between the LGBT community and the ace community (That does not includes mutual support and understanding of each others problems). I have, and will always be a LGBT supporter, all my life but as an asexual we are really not a part of the LGBT community nor we are dying to be one. If some consider us a part on the fact that some LGBT people are indeed asexuals then that is fine but in a way I believe our problems are that different. Though I want to clarify that does not mean asexuals are homophobic because that is never the case but I just see the LGBT community as a very sexual community and I guess this ignorant writer is all about, he can have all his gay sexual life, we’re not dying to be part of it but as you demand respect from the society, that is what I would think he should show us, respect for the way we are, we never attack the gay so why he is allowed to do so?

This is the problem with all Gay people who never understand what is Asexual is all about, we’re all in denial of being either gay or bisexuals and we’re just faking it, this is the big issue and once the LGBT community understand that we are not, we are born Asexuals then we can be allies, nothing more nothing less.

I understand what you’re saying, and I’m often uncomfortable with the sex-normative attitudes in LGBT spaces, too. (I haven’t actually been part of an LGBT group since college, for this reason.) However, this is something I think should be up to the individual. Some aces feel safest - or only feel safe - in LGBT communities. Some don’t. Some lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender people don’t identify with LGBT communities either. Nobody should feel pressured to be part of a community they don’t feel comfortable in, but nobody should be turned away from a community they need, either.

And yes, our problems are different, but they stem from a lot of the same social attitudes that need to be deconstructed (e.g., the belief that there’s only one “right” human sexuality and everything else is broken or wrong). Plus, lots of ace people are also queer in other ways.

I do agree with everything you have said and I respect that it is the individual’s choice to feel part, participate and be a member of the LGBT Community or not, a choice other aces needs to respect as well. I believe most people, in general always feel the safest when they’re a part of a group of people, dealing with some issues that seem that similar, though mostly that different as well but the mutual understanding and support that comes from being part of a community, any community for the matter is what counts. The only part that I think LGBT members needs to understand is what Asexuality is all about, that being asexual does not mean we’re in denial, the minute we understand each other is the minute we become the closest of allies, the thing that in reality I do feel because all my life I have felt that the LGBT Community is like the closest to me than anything else and will always be no matter how many differences we have from each other. Thank you for your reply, mutual respect is all we need.
